FILTHY FLUNK

DEEP SAAAF

I seem to be on a mild South America tip this week so i will keep it rolling. I came across Arthur Verocai on a random myspace adventure (the one where you have a starting point, someone you have usually heard of, and then via 'friends' links you meander your way through pages upon pages of other peoples hard graft) which resulted in me sticking the Jack to Phono in the stepsisters system and smoking a massive fag. His music is, as described, Jazz, Funk and Folk, but myspace seems to have minimal options with regard to what genre you play, so i will let you make your own mind up. From my research the guy has been around for years and is as much a conductor as a musician, playing with a 36 piece orchestra in 1972 for his self titled album, which again is well worth a look.

At a guess i would say thta he probably has absolutely nothing to do with this myspace but he has a few decent video knocking about online, another avenue if you are interested in his music, or music in general would be clocking the WaxPoetics website as they probably know more about music than anyone in the world ever! (a bold statement, i stand by it though)

EL TOPO

Watched this film whilst in brighton. Completely mental in every possible way. couldn't Recommend it more, allow me to use the medium of Wikipedia to set the scene......

"During their journey, they find a lifeless town with all the inhabitants killed and mutilated (including the farm animals). El Topo avenges the town by hunting down and killing the outlaws who butchered the townsfolk. They find out that the outlaws are under the command of a Colonel who has taken another small town with a monastery and its inhabitants as hostage. El Topo rescues the town from the Colonel and his outlaws, only to abandon his son with the monks. He rides off with a woman whom the Colonel and his outlaws had kept captive as a slave, and names her Mara after the bitter water they later drink from a pond. Mara convinces El Topo to defeat the four great gun masters to become the greatest gunman in the land. He duels each of them at Mara's prodding, and during each duel, El Topo either cheats or gets lucky."

INCASE YOUR AROUND

A little foreword about something i am very excited about. The Timothy Taylor Gallery on 20th May opens its doors for a celebration of the late but great photography Diane Arbus. well worth clocking if your in town and believe me it will definitely be one to remember.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I stumbled across this photographer today and thought i would share. Judging by the 'About me' bit he resides in china, but i think hE must be english, one because of the education info, two because he took some photos off a friend and his fixed wheeled racer crew in Cambridge (no comment). In all seriousness though he has some stunning flicks, the 'Captive' series is a particular percy! Believe!

THE GARDEN OF EDAN PROJECT

An American hip hop artist i have always favoured for his complete refusal to adhere to the 'bitch's and ho's' and 'blig bling' aspects of the said genre is Edan, or The Humble Magnificent. I like his stuff for many of the same reasons i liked the work of the UK artists of the past 9 years, but the majority of them crumbled under the weight of their over dressed and over fed rivals accross the pond. Edan, being of their native tongue, didn't ever have anything to prove. He is still churning out fresh vibes for thoughs that no. His live show is quite simply one of the best thing i have ever seen live (i say that about a few things, but its definitely in the top five). I remember he played whilst i lived in Brighton in possibly the worst club in history (The Ocean Rooms) and still boyed it beyond belief. Cock the video for a mere taste of his skills. If you want to hear his vocal skills at full throttle i suggest getting on his website, clocking discography, and going buying his shit. ITS DOPE
>>>>>>>>>>WWW.HUMBLEMAGNIFICENT.COM<<<<<<<<<<<

In the Video he is doing a show with Prefuse 73, which, in case your not aware is another top music maker and well worth a look. He is a pioneer for the 'Wonk Hop' generation, and is an MPC master (always a good sign of a top boy!). In this video he is accompanied by a full band too. All the spoils!

FEELING WELL?

I thought i would have a little word on a Bristol based artist that i mentioned last month, but didn't have any pictures from the 'Crimes of Passion' exhibition to share. Checked his website out today and its BIG IN THE GAME (well sleek and flashed out)! Sickboy has been smacking it for time, him and Ponk used to paint the dopest walls when i last lived here. It seems lately his has been going from strength strength in a manner of new directions, which in case your interested, are well worth checking out!

Anyway, i'm back in bristol fi weekend and me have access to all me records. I was going to do a history of english reggae, but i am still searching for a couple of records. HARTLEY....... JR

JR is sick. What more do i need to say really. He is probably best known for his work in the Favelas in Rio, some of which were featured as the centre page pull out in the Guardian newspaper last year. He has an extensive portfolio, which, in the finest way possible, mixes graffiti and street art in his own completely unique style. Quite how he gets those fuckers printed i don't know, but to be honest there is something nice about about never really understanding what your looking at. Check his website for some serious vibes. TANK MAN

Flying Lotus maybe be my favorite producer on road at the moment. His music seems to do the job what ever mood i am in, so it was a pleasant, if not unexpected surprise that when trawling through 'Tank' magazine, a trendy fashion/art mag, i stumbled upon this little piece favoring his beats and productions. I have to do a fair amount of trawling through these sorts of magazines at work, so when i get little gems like this in pages upon pages of Gucci adds and winkle pickers it brightens my view on what i sometimes see as and arid and horrible sector of society.

Thanks Eleanor

A SHAMELESS SLUG

Ninja man is always a safe bet for an absolute murking at sting. Don't get me wrong, i rate super supercat baaaaare, and there are a couple of times that he starts jamming but, seriously, no man can tess the Ninja at sting. Him get boyed! Its a nuts video to at the end it all kicks off and they have to cut the broadcast off, good'ol sting. For some more recent beefy shenanigans clock beenie vs bounty 06 (i think its 06) and you will be treated to bounty getting absolutely torn to pieces, by beenie and the crowd.

THE SIMPLE THINGS

2 stupidly decent/weird websites for you at this unearthly hour on sunday eve. I rate these sorts of pages so much, pointless and void of any pretentiousness they are what is great about the internet. The little scenic corners that you tumble upon by chance. The first one i suggest is probably best viewed with the mother of all hang-overs, on a projector, in the dark, with your eyes pinned open..... RAINBOW GRADIENT.

The second has Berlin written all over it. Its all about the postcode in Berlin, if you ain't living in a mildly ghetto end of town people ain't going to dig your shit! Who ever made this site has some serious stees in my book. Its all about the bitmap graphics blud! GOLDEN GATE BERLIN

FROM THE ARCHIVE

Fucking aye! its friday, well, almost, as i write this its actually 23:27 but i am getting the mix up early as i plan a full night of shenanigans this friday eve. The mix this week is older and much much longer that the usual. I did this mix, at a guess, judging by the tunes on it, about 3 years ago maybe a bit more. Its from the archive basically. It is a proper mash down of a multitude of tunes and stees. Bare with it, in re-listening to it the mix too bad, even if it does wreak of gcse . I am fairly sure that it has a little for everyone, maybe thats not a good thing, but, if i am being honest its going up becaue i don't have time this evening to record anything as i am working on next weeks, which is going to be HUGE!!!! And as its bank holiday, and i am going back to Bristol, I will have full access to my records, so, maybe i'll drop a couple in for some easter festivities.

So! Music!.........

1. RUP - wilderness kid

2. TASKFORCE - it us we're back

3. THE LIMP TWNS - the limping song
